Yesterday we visited my cousin, Karrin, along with some friends, to play board games and cook out. We brought our dogs to help socialize them. Gus in particular needs help with this. We were watching Gus so closely and Scout was behaving so well, that we lost track of Scout for a while until I looked around and asked my husband, “Where’s Scout?”
“I don’t know,” he said.
“Is it that German Shepherd-looking one?” asked Ryan, Karrin’s partner. “He’s outside.”
Outside?! Cue the search party! Scout is equipped with an Apple AirTag, and I could see that he hadn’t gotten far, so I wasn’t in panic mode yet. We were in the country and the map said Scout was far from the road. But. I wanted to find him yesterday and get him back where I could keep an eye on him!
Then I got a phone call. Someone found Scout! He has two tags with our phone numbers on him. One on his collar, one on the harness he was wearing. So a neighbor called when they found Scout, and I was able to get my boy back after a little back-and-forth. There were four brown houses and three fields, so there was a little confusion.
Scout had been out chasing bunnies and having the time of his life. Now he’s safe at home, wishing he was out there having adventures, but I’ll be darned if I let him out of my sight again!

In other news, I’ve taken on a challenge in which I write and publish a short story a week. I’m pretty excited about it. So far I’ve written my first story and published it, and I can’t wait to find out what my next story will be. I write into the dark, with no outline or plan, so every story I write is as exciting for me as it is for my readers.
Anyway, here is the link to my story. It will be listed on this website in the near future too.
